Enable GZIP Compression to Improve Your Website Speed

Google has developed a very handy tool to check your website speed which is called PageSpeed Tools. Put website URL in the box and click Analyze button, Google will provide complete details to improve the website speed and among those suggestions one will be “Enable compression” which is also called GZIP Compression and in this post i will show you how to enable GZIP Compression easily and quickly.

I will not dive into explaining what is GZIP Compression and why it is important because you will find plenty of explanations on the internet so lets focus on enabling it.

How to Enable it?
In order to enable compression login to your Cpanel account and click on File Manager,and in the root folder locate the file .htaccess(yes the file that starts with a . ), either download this file and edit and than upload or right click on the file and click Edit, when the file is open you will find some code will be there already, just copy the below code and paste it at the end of your .htaccess file.

click on the save button and that’s it.

Now to test if it is enabled or not go to the Google PageSpeed page and enter the URL of your site again and click on analyze button and you will not see the option Enable Compression.
